Constituency Changes and Draft Proposals by David Murray

David Murray kindly attended the Brandwood Forum meeting 28th September to talk about Boundary and Constituency Changes.

Changes have been initially proposed and are open to consultation till 5 December 2016.The object is to reduce the Constituency areas (MP’s) to 9 from 12. Following this consultation there may be revisions. Residents can attend and speak at a hearing in Birmingham on 3rd and 4th Nov. (10 minutes per person max)

David explained the proposed changes and also offered his revised version of boundaries that he has forwarded to the Commission. The Commission’s suggested changes were based on the Ward Boundaries that are now in force, but these are due for change in Birmingham, so it makes little sense.

It was agreed that the only possibility of changing the proposals would be if all political party councillors/MPs agreed on a suggested plan to be submitted for the Birmingham area.

David handed out a number of maps covering his proposal and agreed to a link on the Forum site to a copy of his presentation.

It was also agreed that with the political climate these proposed Commission changes may never happen, The next review would be 2023 and David has also drawn up a plan for then.
