Birmingham Highways Maintenance and Management
Amey operates the Birmingham Highways Maintenance and Management Service, which is Europe’s largest local government highways partnership.
Working with Birmingham City Council we will deliver a step-change of improvements in the first five years with more than £350 million invested in the city’s highways network.
We will also remove a backlog of work and increase standards. We will then maintain the infrastructure at its improved standard for the remaining 20 years of the contract.
We maintain and manage 2,500km of roads, 4,200km of footways, 95,000 street lights, 76,000 street trees, around 1,100 traffic light signals and over 1,000 bridges, tunnels and highways structures.
Our winter services involve gritting 1,200km of road every night during freezing weather, maintaining 1,265 grit bins and treating priority pavements in icy conditions.
