Dawberry fields football pitch markings project rejected !

Last year Brandwood chair Karen Osborne carried out a young people’s consultation during the Easter break holidays at Dawberry Fields park which has a small childrens play area , a skate area and two goal posts .

Young people and local parents requested the following:

1) better skate area
2) a proper football pitch marked out
3) a marked walking/ cycle track on the path

One parent is a football coach and remembers the local football league and said he’d be happy to offer voluntary coaching ..

As a result of this consultation The chair also organised a Brandwood Young Peoples meeting to which bcc deputy leader Mr Ian Ward and the Head of Youth Services came along as did some of the young people from the consultation.

Karen costed out and secured a small amount of money to mark out a football pitch for one year.
However BCC parks department have rejected this project because of the following:
1) there is no changing room
2) there are no toilets
3) there is no organised football league

Karen Osborne has contacted local District head Karen Cheney and local cllrs to appeal against this decision without success.

UPDATE March 2014 – District Head and Parks Manager chose not to support this grass roots led project. As usual,  Brandwood Young people do not benefit ….
